Soleus raise

A bent-knee calf raise for the soleus: a deep calf muscle that is often forgotten, but works hard every time you walk or climb the stairs.

Keep your knees slightly bent the whole time.

How to do it

  1. Stand facing a kitchen counter, holding on lightly.
  2. Bend your knees slightly and keep them bent.
  3. Rise up onto your toes, slowly.
  4. Lower your heels slowly back down.
Respect pain. This should feel like work for your muscles, not pain in your knee. If it hurts, do fewer, move through a smaller range, or skip it today and tell your physiotherapist.
